   Bankim Chandra Chatterjee (1838-1894)

The National Song,'Vande Maatram' was composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in a combination of Sanskrit and Bengali languages.The song first appeared in his book ''Anandamatha''.The tune for this song was set by Jadunath Bhattacharya .
During the British Rule, "Vande Maatram" or "Hail to the Mother(land)!" became the national cry for freedom. To this day, the song holds its importance as a national song describing the love of patriots for
India.
